"Withdraw allegiance from the old categories of the Negative (law,
limit, castration, lack, lacuna), which Western thought has so long held
sacred as a form of power and an access to reality. Prefer what is
positive and multiple, difference over uniformity, flows over unities,
mobile arrangements over systems. Believe that what is productive is
not sedentary but nomadic." (M. Foucault)
The Brentwood Road Gallery, in association with Out of the Phone (Paris) and as part of East London Photomonth, present a truly international exhibition of Iphoneography and Mobile Photography, featuring 19 photographers who use only their smart phones to capture and edit their photographs. In collaboration with Parisian publishing house and photographic pioneers, Out of the Phone, we will examine the dissolving ontology of the photograph in the wake of the digital-social revolution - the democratisation of art and subversion of the art market's reliance upon the unique artistic image and its limited dispersal. With photographers from Stuttgart, Paris, Perth, Tokyo, London, Seattle, Philadelphia, Mexico City, Moscow and, of course, Romford.
