Taking place at The Jam Tree Clapham’s Bookcase Bar, guests at this intimate feast will be treated to a welcome cocktail followed by five courses of fresh and flavoursome Iraqi food, designed and cooked by JUMA founder and head chef Philip Juma.

Philip spent the first six years of his career within the financial square mile, however became disillusioned with that world. All the while, he consistently fuelled his passion for food in his spare time and ultimately decided to embark on a journey from suited city boy to sweaty chef whites. From working on the street food circuit to gaining experience in the likes of The Savoy and Ishbillia in Knightsbridge, Philip’s experiences and crucial excitement for Iraq’s culinary delights led to the birth of JUMA Kitchen in 2012.

As an English-Irish-Iraqi, Philip is determined to put Iraqi cuisine on the map in London. Iraq’s reputation has been synonymous with war, bloodshed and unrest for many years. Through food, JUMA aims to reinvent this stereotype and connect people with a country that is rich in culture and heritage. Diners at JUMA Kitchen are encouraged to sit at communal tables to spark conversation whilst getting a little taste of the lesser-known and under-represented cuisine of Iraq.

The food is just one element of JUMA’s theatrical supper club, where guests will be immersed in a truly authentic yet modern Middle Eastern experience. Added extras on the night include a live DJ spinning funky Middle Eastern tunes from the 70s as well as playful alcoholic palate cleansers between courses. To divulge any more would spoil the experience, but a night of surprise and intrigue is guaranteed.

Situated in a prime position in Clapham Old Town, The Jam Tree Clapham offers locals and visitors its distinctive blend of British and Colonial-inspired food, unique cocktails, vibrant interiors and friendly atmosphere. The owners and the Chefs pride themselves on creating exciting and unique dining experiences and are delighted to host JUMA Kitchen this October.
