The Bleached Bones of a Story

"Little events, ordinary things, smashed and reconstituted. Imbued with new meaning. Suddenly they become the bleached bones of a story."

Inspired by this passage in The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, members of London Independent Photography's Central Group have cultivated a theme for their 2014 exhibition which takes place at Espacio Gallery in East London this November as part of Photomonth 2014.

The work on show uses story-telling in many forms; photojournalism, street photography, personal narratives drawn from everyday objects, dream-like worlds, traces of stories to be found in the urban landscape and the stories embedded in wild landscapes. As usual, the photographs come from near and far and the styles are as varied as the subject matter. All of the work, though, conjures intense feelings and ideas from the everyday things often overlooked but that can now be seen as those bones of stories.

Participating photographers: Héloïse Bergman, Angelika Berndt, Brendan Delaney, Eva Hagman, Teresa Levitt, Hugh Look, Rashida Mangera, Heather Martin, Ingrid Newton, Edith Templeton, Geoff Titley
Curated by: Kerstin Ullström Harris
