Titled “Diversity – Malaysia Art”, the exhibition is a fitting reflection of the nature of Malaysia and its people. Given its history and location, Malaysia is a diverse country – not just in the mix of races, languages and cultures, but in terms of lifestyles, economies as well as ambitions. This is expressed by the artists through the work they created.

The artists selected represent the width and breadth of this cultural mix with a spectrum of Malaysian locality thrown in. Here, high technical skills, imagination and perseverance combine to make works that are variously challenging, compelling and beautiful. They range from internationally known Yee I-Lann who does photographical art to the more localized Abdul Ghani who emphasizes his surrounds via paintings.

Apart from them the show will feature works by Ahmad Zakii, Jalaini Hassan, Ahmad Shukri, Kow Leong Kiang, Chong Ai Lei, Juhari Said, Umibaizurah and Heng Mok Zung.

In Tony Godfrey as curator we have someone who lives and breathes South East Asian art. Not only is he experienced and knowledgeable in the art of this region with over 20 year in the field, but since 6 years ago has decided to live there too and is currently based in Singapore. This has allowed him to be closer to the local art scene hence have a more holistic understanding of the finer details involved with the domestic artist viewpoints.
