Join us for an interactive weekend where the club and the theatre collide. Theatre Royal Stratford East will be transformed into a pulsating nightclub for this immersive dance theatre event, celebrating how clubbing has influenced our lives and culture, and bred new forms of dance throughout the years. Club dance styles will be brought to life by some of London’s most exciting choreographers. From hip hop to house, 70’s vogueing to breakdance battling, there will be something for every clubber, disco-er, raver, jitterbugger and even bedroom dancer!

The evening programme of East London Dance: Club Cultures features a double bill of Uchenna Dance (Vicki Igbokwe), Our Mighty Groove and the premiere of new commission, Club Life.

Our Mighty Groove will transport you to an underground club in New York. Once inside you will become both spectator and clubber in this 360 degree dance experience, following the colourful characters of club goers as they werk the floor with feistiness and attitude. In an authentic clubbing experience, infectious tunes will get you up close and personal with Uchenna Dance’s signatory blend of House, Vogue and Waacking, combined with African and Contemporary dance.

Club Life, is a brand new commission combining a live band of world class musicians along with incredible dance artists. Directed by choreographer Nathan ‘NEO’ Gordon (Flawless, Kylie Minogue, Streetdance 3D 1&2) and drummer/ music producer Jack Baker (Bonobo, Alice Russell, Lea Lea), this exclusive production will feature heart pounding choreography with block rocking beats, taking you on a journey through clubbing’s most influential eras.
