Join us for an evening of professional actors reading never-before-heard stories, all enjoyed with a drink in your hand. Award-winning short fiction event Liars’ League has been going since 2007 and has spread like a literary virus to New York and Hong Kong: so why not come and see what the buzz is about?

Liars' League is a great place to find new writers on the rise and listen to stories you won't hear anywhere else: funny, moving, filthy, memorable, thought-provoking and above all entertaining. Each month means a new theme, and each new event features writers who bring their own interpretations to the theme, from Sex & Death to Signs & Omens, Accident & Emergency to Master & Servant.

This month’s theme is Boom & Bust: not sure what to expect? Neither are we! The stories are chosen from open submissions only ten days in advance and could feature anything from bull and bear markets to credit crunch and austerity fatigue, explosions to surgical "enhancements", statues to raves, high rollers to down-and-outs: there's no telling what fantastic fictions will emerge from our authors’ pens.

As a special one-off, at our March 10th event, one winning story will be recorded live for later broadcast on BBC Radio 4! We want a big lively crowd but tickets (just a fiver) are only available on the door on a first come first served basis, so you're advised to come by early if you want the best seats.

The show starts at 7:30pm, but our doors open at 7 so early birds can grab a drink first. Since there is no pre-booking required, all you have to do is show up, pay up, find a seat and enjoy. The recently refurbished downstairs bar at the Phoenix offers a relaxed setting for storytelling, with great food available to order from the bar and a selection of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks to suit all tastes.

Liars’ League has been named one of the top ten storytelling nights in the UK by The Guardian, and won the gong for Best Regular Spoken Word Night at the prestigious 2014 Saboteur Awards. We've featured work by established writers such as Helen Simpson and Stephen King as well as by emerging authors who go on to publish best-selling and critically acclaimed novels (M L Stedman, Cally Taylor, Kachi A. Ozumba). We specialise in bringing fresh fiction to life in front of a fun, friendly, literature-loving crowd - so come along and be part of the action.
