The BYT Film Club Special Screening of MAIDENTRIP

BYT Film Club screens Maidentrip on 23rd April. This real life story presents 14-year-old Laura Dekker during a 2-year voyage as she aims to become the youngest person to sail around the world solo.

Maidentrip follows 14-year-old Laura Dekker, as she sets out, camera in hand, on a two-year voyage in pursuit of her dream to be the youngest person to ever sail around the world alone. In the wake of a year-long battle with Dutch authorities that sparked a global storm of media scrutiny, Laura now finds herself far from land, family and unwanted attention, exploring the world in search of freedom, adventure, and distant dreams of her early youth at sea.

This incredible real life story not only shows Laura's fantastic sailing skills, but also her courage and passion, as we watch her grow before our eyes. Jillian Schlesinger's powerful debut feature amplifies Laura's voice through a mix of Laura's own video and voice recordings at sea and intimate vérité footage from locations including the Galapagos Islands, French Polynesia, Australia and South Africa.

There will be a live Skype Q&A with director Jillian Schlesinger's post screening.
