Trinity. Three elements. This number carries great significance across many cultures and religions. Numerology tells us that three invokes expression and the pure joy of creativity. In biblical terms, it is recognised as a spiritually perfect numeral. Celtic art and literature has long been preoccupied with the number three. Now it is the turn of Frédéric Daty to harness the power of the trinity to bring his work to life.

“In short, there are always three elements to my work: the metal symbolising Mother Earth and our foundations, the stylised figurative shapes which represent the spiritual realm, and the light and shadows which evoke movement and change.” – Frédéric Daty

In his first UK solo show, ‘Trinity’ sees iconic London city scenes depicted in metal – from Westminster and Big Ben, to Piccadilly Circus and stations across the capital, such as Borough, and Canary Wharf. The collection explores the notion of the cityscape as an ecosystem – Daty empties these overrun spaces of all living organisms, revealing only the structure; the city’s skeleton recreated from a material that comes directly from the ground, raw steel, and the flux of energy represented by shadows, light and perception of perspective.
