The House of St Barnabas, the world's first not-for-profit members' club, presents the second edition of arts festival, Art Social.
Taking over both the Hosue and Soho Square, the week’s events will incorporate live art, exhibitions, a series of film programmes, workshops, talks, music, performance art and an outdoor silent party under the stars. It will also provide a rare opportunity for members of the public to have free access to this private members club and its beautiful secret garden.
Highlights from the festival include:
* A specially-commissioned 4 metre-tall, brightly-coloured inflatable teapot in Soho Square by artist Hester Reeve (complete with teacups and biscuits), which will explore human needs in relation to the ritual of tea-drinking
* Needs Must - a large, illuminated geometric structure on the roof of the chapel, designed by artist Keef Winter
* JacketsPainting / PaintingJackets - edible and wearable art from artist Marike Etsna, which audiences will be invited to eat and wear as they walk around the house
* Film screenings and performances from artists including Jeremy Deller, Laure Provoust, Marline Haring and Jennifer Reid
* Workshops including tie-dying, Broadside Ballad-writing, fresh-flower button holing and an interactive story project from writer-in-residence Jason Ward
* Mini Manifestos - a series of 20 minute pop up lectures from speakers including co-found of Patternity, Anna Murray; Eritrean-born journalist Hannah Pool and founder of The Idle Academy, Tom Hodgkinson
* An alternative Silent Playlist Experience in the House’s beautiful secret courtyard on the Saturday night
