Radical re-interpretations of classical repertoire are projected through a 3D sound system with experimental and dub mixes. Piano and String pieces by Chopin, Debussy, Franck, Haydn, Pott, Ravel and Shostakovich will swirl around the room to create rich textural and spatial soundscapes encouraging you to hear new meaning in these familiar pieces.
While we are familiar with the idea of Shakespeare plays transplanted into a contemporary setting, this type of recontextualisation is much less common in the world of classical music. This project involves reinterpretations of several iconic pieces from the classical repertoire using experimental and dub mixing techniques, electric and electronic instruments, extended performance practice and surround sound spatialisation. Hear these pieces as you’ve never heard them before!
This concert results from an Arts and Humanities Research Council project led by Simon Zagorski-Thomas at London College of Music, University of West London.
