Monteverdi - Excerpts from Madrigals Books I-III

Renowned European early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants make their festival debut performing excerpts from Monteverdi’s First, Second and Third Book of Madrigals.

Led by tenor Paul Agnew, they explore a cappella works from the youthful Monteverdi’s first three madrigal collections composed in his birthplace, Cremona. Sensual and magnificent depictions of passionate love, these vocal works demonstrate Monteverdi’s creative flair in unravelling melodies and intricate harmonies which sparked a musical revolution.
