8:00PM JULI FÁBIÁN One of Hungary’s foremost jazz singers Julianna Fabian has made a significant impact on the European jazz scene with her mature performances, distinctive jazz style and impressive flair for improvisation. Twice a finalist in the Shure Voice Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival, her combination of jazz standards and contemporary material combined with effortless vocal improvisations have made her a favourite of audiences around Europe. A voice coach on the Hungarian version of the X Factor (well, someone has to do it!) her powerful and sophisticated vocals have been heard in a variety of different settings, from jazz duos with the highly rated Hungarian jazz pianist Peter Sarik through her own quartets to the vocal/DJ led Electro-Acoustic band “Juli Fabian & Zoohacker”. But it is undoubtedly jazz that is Juli’s first love and it is with enormous pleasure that we welcome this wonderful singer back to the Club once again. This evening, in keeping with the philosophy of the festival, Juli will be performing with an exciting mix of UK and Hungarian musicians: Istvan Gyárfás-guitar, Mátyás Hofecker-bass, Winston Clifford-drums and Special Guest Steve Rubie-flute. Highly recommended.

“Julianna Fabian...has a voice like honey with chilli peppers” Peter Pallai;
“Her voice has power but also a smoky Aretha quality.... joyous” LondonJazz News
9:45PM SANDOR MOLNÁR Now in his late 20's this award-winning Hungarian saxophonist has been making quite an impression on the European jazz scene of late. After commencing his studies as a teenager at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Miskolc Sandor went on to specialise in Jazz studies at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. Graduating in 2011 he then went on to get his masters degree in music from the University of Graz, finally graduating in 2014. Since then his incisive, fluent and melodic sax playing has been heard with a host of established names on the European jazz scene, including the likes of the iconic pianist Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Robert Lakatos, Gábor Bolla (24th), Kálmán Oláh and György Orbán. The music will be a mix of contemporary jazz standards and originals and accompanying Sandor this evening will be a world-class rhythm section of Gareth Williams (UK - Claire Martin, Pee Wee Ellis) piano, Yuri Goloubev (UK - Gwilym Simcock) bass and the award-winning Hungarian drummer Márton Juhász (Peter King, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos).
