Richard Durrant, who describes himself as ‘the UK’s only stand-up, barefoot, un-classical guitarist’, returns with his latest Guitar Whisperer show which includes original Durrant pieces plus breathtaking versions of works by Django Reinhardt, JS Bach, Debussy and Mike Oldfield. Tracks from Durrant’s latest album The Girl at the Airport will also feature.

The Girl at the Airport is the latest album by composer and concert guitarist Richard Durrant. Its the culmination of a four and a half year project to record a trilogy of albums inspired by the country of Paraguay. This vividly colourful, final album features music by Durrant, Agustin Barrios Mangoré (the great Paraguayan guitarist) and Durrant’s Paraguayan collaborators Kike Pedersen and Juan Duarte.

The Girl at the Airport is an album with a story. Says Durrant: “It tells a Graham Greene tinged tale. An Englishman experiencing South American culture at first hand, unearthing musical treasures along the way. My own tracks Night Flight to Lima, Our Man in Asuncion and The Girl at the Airport set the scene with a string orchestra, percussion, guitars, ukuleles and other soundscapes. You can even hear the voice of Barrios himself.”
Durrant’s memorable title track The Girl at the Airport was recorded in Prague last July with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra Strings. The Paraguayan premiere of the work will be given this November under the baton of Luis Szaran when Durrant returns to Paraguay to celebrate the completion of this unique trilogy.

Richard launches the album performing with a 13 piece string section at Bolivar Hall Wed 24 Feb.
