An explosion of Afro-Latin, folk and Andalusian vibes that promises to transport audiences far from the grey bleak winter days in London. UK-based, multi-talented artists will gather together for an evening of music and poetry in support of the Saharawi refugees in the Algerian Sahara. The Sandblast-organised Benefit Concert is raising funds to help rebuild the lives and homes of thousands of refugees who lost everything due to devastating torrential rains in late 2015.
The Saharawis are refugees from Africa’s last colony, Western Sahara. They have been displaced in harsh desert camps near Tindouf, SW Algeria, for the past 40 years.
The line-up of some of London’s leading talents performing on the evening include:
- Singer-songwriter Pia de Keyser
- Blues guitarist Ramon Goose and band World Scatterlings
- Singer-songwriter Renny Jackson
- Poet Sam Berkson, in collaboration with Algerian darbuka player Karim Dellali
- Cuban-Congolese Grupo Lokito
- DJ Jamie Renton
Kindly funded by Arts Council England, this concert also benefits from the generous support of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in London.
