Antarctica Revealed - The dawn of modern Antarctic science
2016 marks the 60th Anniversary of the First Trans-Antarctic Crossing, which involved both Sir Edmund Hillary and the late UK Himalayan Trust Chairman, George Lowe.
Dr Huw Lewis-Jones, eminent polar historian tells the story of that expedition and how it opened the door to a new era of polar exploration. He will be joined by Prof. David Vaughan, Director of Science at BAS, who will give us an insight into the scientific work being carried out on the ice today.
