We are really excited to be collaborating with the Hub Workshop to bring you this introduction to Laser Cutting session specifically designed for crafters.

Laser cutting is pretty much what it says on the tin - it's a big machine that uses lasers to cut out shapes with super sharp, super accurate, super fast precision. You can use it to cut wood, acrylic, leather and felt and it gives the most satisfyingly neat edge ever. Plus it can cut many identical multiples of the same shape very quickly.

You can use it to make signs, produce jewellery, create furniture, etch surfaces and so much more. If you've ever thought about starting your own crafting business - or you just want to try a super cool laser machine, this is for you. Check out the pictures for some examples of things crafters make with the laser cutter

To use the laser cutter, you'll need a digital vector file. If you've never even heard of a vector, don't worry! We'll be laying on support to help you do it and it really is much simpler than it sounds. By the time you come to the session, you'll be able to produce the right kind of file easily at home.

At the session, Mark and Drew from Hub Workspace will introduce you to the basics of laser cutting technology. Then they'll show you it in action - cut the components to create this dinky miniature stool, laser your own initials on it and assemble it there and then.

You wont be able to laser cut your own designs in this session - this is an introductory session for you to understand how laser cutting works. After the session, you'll have enough knowledge to create your own designs, translate them into digital files and use the machines to cut them. Hub Workshop's DIY programme is incredibly affordable - prices start from £45 per hour, so you could have your first batch of stock for your new business done in an hour!

Have you got an idea for your own laser-cut line of jewellery? Getting ready to smash Christmas gifts? Laser cutting is the perfect way to mix fast industrial techniques with your own creative ideas. There's also a lovely goody bag for everyone who comes along, full of discounts, goodies and inspiration, plus we'll have drinks in the studio after the demonstration. So come along and get lasering!!
