Every April, Cityread London unites thousands of lives through literature, placing one book at the heart of the capital. This year Gillian Slovo’s critically acclaimed novel Ten Days has been chosen as the Cityread London 2016, sponsored by Audible, the world’s leading provider of spoken audio entertainment.

Cityread invites you into the world of Ten Days, a thrilling journey through ten hot, tumultuous days in London that ruin lives, make careers and change a community forever.

As part of the event, Cityread will be hosting an opening discussion panel, “The written word and revolt: giving a voice to the unheard”. The event includes speakers poet Dr Lez Henry, journalist and author Ben Judah, broadcaster and author Helena Kennedy and Ten Days author Gillian Slovo, chaired by Kirsty Lang, and is part of London Book & Screen Week. The panel will discuss the role of literature and explore unheard voices in contemporary society.

Cityread are also hosting a free month long interactive digital installation “Stories from the City”, from 2nd April – 8th May at Foyles Charing Cross Road, with sounds and stories provided by sponsor Audible. The installation will allow visitors to explore the themes and evidence from the first 72 hours of Ten Days, leading up to the fictionalised riot in Rockham, London.

The closing event will be held on the 7th May, which will see four writers whose books have been Cityread’s annual choice to date, discuss their experiences.
