Hanley Tennis Club will play host to a special charity event next month.

On Sunday 8 May, the Club will be hosting a tournament in aid of Dimbleby Cancer Care.

The event has been organised by Maurice Vidowsky, Chair of Hanley Tennis Club, whose friend Georgie Grindlay worked for the charity and died of cancer back in 2014.

Maurice said: "As well as remembering Georgie, the key focus of this event is to raise as much money as possible for the charity in this unique and historic club. This is the second year we are doing this so hope it will be even bigger and better. It would be great to raise £1,000 again but we don't want to limit ourselves."

The event will consist of a friendly tournament between Hanley and Wood Vale tennis clubs as well as welcoming friends, family and the local community to join for lawn games, afternoon teas and a raffle in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Catherine West MP will be on hand to present the trophy to the winner.

This year marks the charity’s 50th anniversary, set up in 1966 in memory of broadcaster Richard Dimbleby and based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals in London. It provides practical and psychological support to people living with cancer and to their families and carers.

All the money raised will go towards the charity’s ‘Care for the Future’ appeal, which aims to raise £500,000 by the end of 2016 so that it can continue and expand its work within the cancer community.
