The eclectic JAZZ VERSE JUKEBOX returns to Hoxton Hall with a fantastic Autumn line-up.

Described as “the perfect jazz poetry party” (Michael Horovitz), the JAZZ VERSE JUKEBOX continues the age-old tradition of intertwining jazz improvisation and spoken word. Join us for what promises to be a thrilling night of diverse spoken word & jazz from some of the freshest exponents on the scene.

The Jazz Verse Jukebox on Friday 30th September features:

MARK GWYNNE JONES: “ Inspired… one of the most accomplished performance poets in the land… drawing the audience into a world where things are not quite what they seem.” The Guardian

PAUL CREE: “…has the ability to make you feel like it was you who discovered him, like he was speaking to only you when everyone else started clapping, bloody latecomers. An amazing storyteller, with turns-of-phrases to die for and an effortless rhyming flow.”

KAROO CHANTI: “Satirical social commentary that builds up a steady rhythm.”

EMMANUEL SUGO: “…explores the effect fear and dreams have on identity.”

And music from LAUREN BUSH: “Bush is one of the freshest and most exciting vocalists to appear on the scene for some time.”~ All About Jazz

And music from your host JUMOKE´ FASHOLA – ‘…an essential vision of great songs from one of the ever-moving cultural frontiers of jazz’.

With live accompaniment from the Jazz Verse Jukebox Trio. Plus our unique ‘jukebox’ OPEN MIC, allowing the audience to showcase their skills of jazz or performance poetry.

The Jazz Verse Jukebox on Friday 28th October features:

London Jazz Award winner for Best Vocalist (2010) CLEVELAND WATKISS – “Fingers dancing over the keys of an imaginary saxophone or pumping the valves of an invisible trumpet, Watkins’ instrument is his voice. Vocal improvisation is the game.” – Arena

Poet and playwright SIDDHARTHA BOSE – “One of the most exciting first collections I’ve come across in a long time. Kalagora bestrides continents and celebrates cities as engines of creativity where dogs talk in hieroglyphs and where a man can be a moth.” – Ian McMillan, The Verb, BBC Radio 3

Poet MICHELLE MADSEN – “A talented wordsmith with a sharp eye, Madsen has the knack for a telling phrase and her poetry is vivid, evocative and thoughtful, rooted in the ordinary and everyday but finding magic in the mundane.”

Young Poet Laureate for London 2012 finalist JOLADE

Singer / Songwriter JADE A HARRIS

And music from your host JUMOKÉ FASHOLA – “…an essential vision of great songs from one of the ever-moving cultural frontiers of jazz.’

With live accompaniment from the Jazz Verse Jukebox Trio. Plus our unique ‘jukebox’ OPEN MIC, allowing the audience to showcase their skills of jazz or performance poetry.
