The People’s Picnic, from 3pm-5pm, is the culmination of Something & Son’s brick making installation that took place at NOW Gallery throughout summer. It will be a great day out for the family to enjoy!
There will be jazz by Magic Lantern and Harry Christelis Quartet, chocolate covered brick shaped cakes by The Robin Collective and tea served in Peninsula Garden. Bring a mug and a picnic blanket and enjoy the fruits of your labour or if you didn’t get a chance to make a brick, this is your last opportunity!
In the early 19th century the Greenwich Peninsula was primarily used as a brickfield site to facilitate local land development with the construction of the first brick buildings in the area. Through a simple combination of fire, mud and sweat, brick making was a cheap and hands-on method of creating beautiful architecture. The People’s Brick Company invited visitors to use the same vernacular architectural processes used in the past by providing the opportunity for people to make their own brick this summer.
