The Afghan film industry is re-emerging from a period of suppression, and a new generation of energetic film makers have started to produce and direct films which are high quality, compelling, experimental and often produced with limited resources. On the weekend of 26-27 November 2016, London will host the Afghan International Film Festival to celebrate this work. The Film Festival will take place at the University of Westminster’s Harrow Campus in Northwest London, where there is a large Afghan community. The Festival will contribute to the enrichment of the Afghan community in the UK, as well as offer alternative perspectives on Afghanistan and refugee life. All films will have English subtitles, making this accessible to the a wider audience interested in experiencing the joys of Afghan film.
