Getty Images Gallery today announces its latest exhibition, Indian Treasures. Marking the 70th anniversary of India’s independence from Britain, this insightful exhibition will showcase a range of historical and rarely seen images that provide some of the earliest photographic documentation of India, displaying the incredible technical and artistic ability of early ground-breaking photographers.

Drawn from the world-renowned Getty Images Hulton Archive, which houses over 100 million images, the exhibition features extraordinary imagery such as a recently uncovered work by the great Indian photographer of the age, Lala Deen Dayal, or a series of remarkable portraits gathered from a mysterious four-volume album of the princes and rulers of India. A tantalising note reveals the set has only one other copy – presented to Queen Victoria herself.

The exhibition will further capture imaginations with vintage prints from legendary photographers Samuel Bourne, John Edward Saché and Felice Beato, who brought this vibrant country to western audiences for the first time.
