An unlikely polo team from Brixton will try their hand at the sport of kings at the famous Ham Polo Club. Cheering them on will be pint-sized Pedro the Shetland pony – the viral video sensation and friend to the stars.

To celebrate the end of the polo season Ham Polo Club are hosting an unusual day of polo in aid of Ebony Horse Club in Brixton. A team of young people from one of London’s most deprived areas have been honing their polo skills and will put them to the test on the hallowed grounds of Ham. Young members from Ebony Horse Club will face off against a team of the Brixton charity’s staff and volunteers.

After a brief pause to tread in the divots, two teams of polo pros will take to the field in what promises to be an exhilarating exhibition match as the University of London face local team Vendetta.

Just a short hop from Richmond station, Ham Polo Club is London’s last remaining polo club a beautiful setting for a unique event that both polo aficionados and polo newbies will enjoy.

Gather your friends for a welcome drink and then enjoy lunch in the clubhouse, or alternatively you can bring your own picnic. Ticket holders will also receive free entry to an exclusive after party at Maddox in Mayfair, where the celebrations can continue into the small hours.

Ebony Horse Club’s famous mascot Pedro the Shetland pony will be coming out of retirement for a special appearance and to lead his team out onto the field. He will then take part in a rather embarrassing “Guess the weight” competition. Let’s hope he hasn’t been enjoying the grass too much at his new retirement home.

ITV News reader and Ebony Horse Club Patron Ronke Phillips will be in attendance to cheer on Ebony’s young players.

All proceeds from the event go towards Ebony Horse Club, a community riding centre in Brixton, South London, which is dedicated to improving the education and aspirations of young people through horses.
