Our Christmas Concert makes a great start to the festive season and it’s always a pleasure to sing in the Speech Room with its unique atmosphere and historic associations. Actor Edward Fox, well-known for his film roles in The Day of the Jackal and The Go Between and in the TV series Edward and Mrs Simpson, will give seasonal readings during the concert and nominate a charity to receive the proceeds of the retiring collection. The choir is also looking forward to welcoming two other very special guests: the Mayor of Harrow and composer Cecilia McDowall, whose piece A Winter’s Night they will be singing.
As well as traditional carols and music, the programme will feature less familiar works by Peter Warlock and Guy Woolfenden as well as Cecilia McDowall. The conductor is Simon Williams and the choir will be accompanied on the organ by Bernard Barker and also by the superb Elysian Brass. We’re also delighted that a choir from Hatch End High School will be our guest performers this year, and there’ll be plenty of opportunity for the audience to participate too.
