For the closing concert in our 'Yes of the Heart Festival' celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, we offer a delightful all-Mendelssohn programme.
The main work will be Mendelssohn's 'Reformation' Symphony, repackaged in a new chamber quintet arrangement by Stuart Whatton. Luther's famous 'Ein feste Burg' hymn melody forms the backbone of the final movement.
Our guest performers are the Camerata of London Chamber Ensemble. The full programme is:
* On Wings of Song, Op.34 no 2
* Piano Quartet No 1 in C minor, Op.1 (first movement)
* 'Reformation' Symphony, Op.107, arr. Whatton (chamber quintet version, world premiere).
A series of 28 colourful posters with interesting background information on Luther and the Reformation will be on display in the church, and there will also be a table sale of Luther-related memorabilia, which will help you get started on your Christmas presents!
Light refreshments available before and after the concert.
