An exhibition of new contemporary paintings inspired by some of the world’s biggest names in music including David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed opens Clerkenwell Gallery on 24 July.

Featuring seven large-scale paintings by Gravesend-based contemporary artist Stuart Dalzell.

This is Dalzell’s first show after an absence of seven years and sees the unveiling of new work fusing his passion for music with his love for art, creating a visual 'Greatest Hits' of his favourite era in rock ’n’ roll.

The seven classic albums include: Electric Warrior by T.Rex, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie and Raw Power by Iggy Pop.

All seven paintings use a combination acrylic paints, pastels, charcoal and mixed media. Each painting is an impressive 5ft high and 4ft wide.

Paintings in the collection include (and can be viewed on his website):
• Darling, I love Candy! – inspired by Lou Reed album, Transformer.
• GlamPop USA (the forgotten boy) – inspired by the Jobriath album, Creatures of the Street.
• Lipstick & Heels - inspired by The New York Dolls’ album, New York Dolls.
• Stardust Warrior (Tribute to Ronson) - inspired by the classic Bowie album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust.
• Dragon Head Boogie - inspired by the T.Rex album, Electric Warrior.
• Reptile – inspired by the Bowie album, Aladdin Sane.
• Soul Variation - inspired by Iggy and the Stooges album, Raw Power.

The exhibition then transfers to London’s Clerkenwell Gallery for a limited run from Tuesday 24 July until Saturday 28 July. Private viewing on the evening of 24 July.
