They’re used to battling it out within the walls of Westminster, but now Peers and MPs are putting brawn before brains in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support’s 32nd legendary Tug of War event.

A firm favourite in London’s social calendar, this year’s event is taking place on Tuesday 5 June in the Westminster Abbey College Gardens, and will be compèred by BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine.

The evening, sponsored by leading security specialists, Banham, will feature matches between rival city firms and Macmillan’s corporate partners, culminating in an almighty clash between members of the House of Lords and House of Commons.

Guests of this quintessentially British affair will enjoy a drinks and canapé reception in the idyllic gardens, as well as entertainment from musicians and performance artists.

Compère Jeremy Vine said “Macmillan Cancer Support’s Tug of War is such a unique event and an absolutely unmissable evening. It’s not only a chance for supporters to see our MPs and Peers completely out of their comfort zone but an opportunity to get behind an incredible charity.”

All money raised will help Macmillan continue to provide emotional, financial, medical and practical support to people living with cancer. Since the inaugural event in 1987, Macmillan Cancer Support’s Tug of War has raised over £3 million.

Charles Hallatt, Executive Chairman, Banham Group said: “We are thrilled to be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support’s Tug of War event. Within Banham, several members of staff and their loved ones have sadly been affected by this terrible disease which makes this a cause very close to our hearts. We are committed to raising awareness and funds to help Macmillan continue to provide invaluable support to people living with cancer across the UK.”

Alex Schimmel, Senior Support Events Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support said “Tug of War is a real highlight in our fundraising calendar and we can’t wait to see who will reign victorious this year. It’s set to be a fantastic evening and every ticket sold will help us to provide vital support to people living with cancer.”
