For this reason, and to celebrate the start of its Summer Sale, Hilton will be giving out free Piña Coladas to get Londoners in the holiday mood. ‘Why Piña Coladas?’, you might be asking yourself. Well, in 1954, Hilton bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero created a special cocktail that mixed rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice – and the delicious Piña Colada was born!

The drink was served personally by the creator over the 35 years that he worked as a bartender at Caribe Hilton Hotel, and in 1978, it was declared the official drink of Puerto Rico – it is now a firm holiday favourite, evoking memories of sun, sea and beaches!
