Four leading conductors closely associated with the Philharmonia Orchestra perform the music of four centuries in this third concert of HarrisonParrott’s anniversary series 50 Years in a Day.

We begin the evening with Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, conducted by Paavo Järvi, 'one of the most admired conductors of the day' (The Guardian). Although unfinished in the usual four-movement structure, this B minor Symphony is a complete, essential and mysterious symphonic experience.

The Philharmonia Orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali brings his ‘imaginative, often spectacular musicality’ (LA Times) to Richard Strauss’ orchestral suite drawn from his glorious opera Der Rosenkavalier. It’s a whirl of orchestral virtuosity and Viennese waltzes bringing together the highlights of a comic love story.

Recently appointed as Chief Conductor Designate of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Elim Chan has been receiving rave reviews for her performances.

Seenandheard remarked: ‘Chan brought out all the fantastically coloured nuances of the music, almost like visually seeing the music with our eyes and ears.’

Tonight she conducts Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Romeo and Juliet, the tone poem which encompasses in one movement the genius and passions of Shakespeare’s incomparable play.

To conclude the concert, Philharmonia Conductor Laureate Vladimir Ashkenazy, and HarrisonParrott’s own beloved founding father, whose collaboration and friendship with the orchestra has continued over 50 years, conduct Elgar’s Enigma Variations, so appropriately dedicated ‘to my friends pictured within’.

Enjoy the tastes and talents of some of HarrisonParrott’s charismatic artists, celebrating the music management company’s 50th anniversary with music spanning from Bach to the present.

The evening also marks the launch of the HP50 Charitable Foundation.
