Alex Urie has developed an immersive process of painting that begins with brushing, pouring, and flooding his medium onto a horizontal canvas. He then builds up layers and textures to create compositions made up of repeated motifs, and compartmentalised areas on the picture plane. Initially read as abstractions, Urie constructs these works from a variety of personal and found online images, to create complex works that require intimate and sustained viewing.
