Announcing the debut solo exhibition by Artist Hana, to be held at 50 Brook Street, opening October 5, 2020.

Entitled Inventing Artist Paints, the show is comprised of eighteen works in oil, including portraits of the actor, comic and writer, Noel Fielding, artists Anish Kapoor, Jenny Saville and Sonia Boyce, all of which have been executed with revolutionary sustainable paints invented by the artist.

Artist Hana’s aim is ‘to explore the possibilities of the creation of sustainable aesthetic works by combining traditionally set oil paints with looser plant based pigments like dried sea vegetables and freeze dried fruit.’ The exhibition also features textured abstract paintings and paintings of horses.

Artist Hana, who trained at Chelsea College of Art and Otis College of Design California, also studied Chemistry and Advanced Materials at The University of Nottingham. Concerned about the toxicity and safety of art materials, Hana has been researching coatings technology since 2016. Her practice is centered on the formulation of oil paints and inks that are safer for use by artists and manufacturers, whilst being sustainable and archival.

Her Education in Coatings Technology, in particular, pigment purity, tint strength and lightening power informed the creation of this exhibition. Through painting portraits, horses and texture she aims to gain advanced understanding of paints, inks and their properties paving the way for the future of oil paint and inks that are safer for aquatic life and artists.

An interactive inventing station will be available at this exhibition, for those interested in experiencing these novel pigments and paint formulations. The opening week takes place from 5th - 12th October, 12 - 9pm and continues on by appointment only from the 13th October - 4th December 2020. Please email: [email protected]
