Marking the start of Fairtrade Fortnight, the Fairtrade Foundation unveils its first-ever virtual festival to highlight the harmful effect of the climate crisis on farmers and food supplies.

Taking place from 22nd February-7th March, the Choose the World You Want Festival will feature more than 100 virtual events designed to engage, inform and educate people around the urgent message of Fairtrade and climate change.

Kicking off the celebrations on 22nd February at 7pm, a headline discussion hosted by journalist Lucy Siegle will feature panellists including Reparationist Esther Stanford-Xosei and Marike de Peña, Director of Banelino, a 400-member strong banana cooperative in the Dominican Republic, who will speak on behalf of the 1.7 million farmers and workers around the world represented by Fairtrade.

A creative activism debate chaired by actress Adjoa Andoh on 24th February at 7.30pm will include contributions from music collective Climate Music New York, climate academic and activist Joycelyn Longdon, climate activist and digital artist Tolomeia Gregory, and Tracy Zengini, Zimbabwean visual artist, among the panellists.

A permaculture Q&A in partnership with Permaculture UK, entitled The Climate Change Garden, on Saturday 6th March 11 am, will feature Fairtrade ambassador and root to fruit champion and chef Tom Hunt.
On Friday 5th March 7:30pm, a fun Friday night quiz hosted by UK Eventures featuring a special guest Nick Hewer will entertain and education guests.

Chefs including Melissa Hemsley, Rosie Birkett and Zoe Adjonyoh will run cook-alongs in the food tent during the festival.

Further events organised by campaigners, partners, brands and retailers and supporters under the umbrella of the festival will run throughout the two-week period. These include over 15 events organised by Fairtrade Yorkshire, seven events run by Fairtrade’s commercial partners, three retail partner events, a Fair Focus webinar, three high level policy events engaging our APPG, businesses, research partners and politicians and much more.
