Over the past five years, Church of Burn has initiated a deeply personal conversation between you and your money. Building on this The Festival of Money offers a wider provocation for us to imagine a better reality by exploring new, expansive and innovative ways of relating to the global dominion of currency.

Across four days - 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th July 2021 - the Festival of Money offers poetry, dance, workshops, film, seminars, art, performance, talk and Ritual exploring money and economy. We bring together leading thinkers, activists and artists to consider and respond to the challenges we face around money. Day themes are as follows:

Thurs 22nd: Money, Sex & the Unconscious
Fri 23rd: Money and Climate
Sat 24th: Money and Art
Sun 25th: Money, Community & Society

Many daytime events will be free with just registration (link available in July). Two special daytime events - CoB's $MACK DOWN! Fri 23rd from 3pm & a screening of the BankJob film at 1pm on Sun 25th - will be ticketed. Church of Burn will conduct a Synod, Service and Ritual on Fri at 7pm, Sat at 7pm & Sun at 6pm which will also be ticketed events.

The Cockpit has been home to the Church of Burn's magico-religious money burning event since 2016. It is the largest annual money burning ritual in the world. The last one was held a few months prior to the coronavirus pandemic in Dec 2019. It was a full house. Guest speakers included the late David Graeber and just shy of £1k was burned in the Ritual and profits from our Art sale were donated to St Mungos.

The response of Governments around the world to the pandemic has raised questions about our relation to money, its creation and distribution. Through the Festival of Money, Church of Burn and The Cockpit are giving a voice to new, diverse and imaginative challenges to the dominant discourse on money and its role in the economy.
