Uyghur Tribunal

The Uyghur Tribunal, an independent people’s tribunal on allegations of genocide against Uyghur, Kazakh and Turkic Muslim populations in north-western China, held its first set of hearings in June. The Tribunal will now hold its second and final set of hearings from 10th - 13th September 2021 to hear further evidence.

The June hearings provided critical evidence and testimony. The September hearings are an opportunity to recall witnesses for further questions and additional contributions to be made from those who may have relevant evidence. The People’s Republic of China has held several press conferences before and after the June hearings, in one case bringing out the family members of Tribunal witnesses to denounce their testimony. The Tribunal hopes that the hearings will provide witnesses with a sense that they can access a form of justice that is currently not available through a formal court.
