The LEGO Group has teamed up with artist Yinka Ilori to create a playful interactive art installation inspired by the creativity of children

The LEGO Group has teamed up with award-winning London-based artist and designer Yinka Ilori to create the Launderette of Dreams, a free public installation that reimagines a community launderette as a vibrant play space using LEGO® bricks.

The design is inspired by ideas from local primary school children in celebration of how children use the power of play to rebuild the world around them.

Elements typically found within a launderette will be transformed into play activities to demonstrate how children use their creativity to turn even the most mundane, repetitive, and boring parts of everyday life into playful adventures.

The installation draws on Ilori’s childhood memories of visiting the local launderette on Essex Road, London with his family, and his early experiences of embracing his imagination to make this experience more playful.

LEGO® play has long been the ultimate platform for creative problem solving, providing the tools for children to build anything they can imagine. This installation is part of the LEGO Group’s Rebuild the World campaign. Now in its third year, Rebuild the World celebrates the creativity of children, inspires them to imagine a better world and shows how LEGO play can help them develop the skills they need to be successful in it.

Come and visit the Launderette of Dreams from 28th October – 6th November (10am – 6pm) at 133 - 135 Bethnal Green Road, London, E2 7DG, United Kingdom. The play activities are designed for those aged 6+. Entry will be free. Each day, ticketed workshops to encourage builders to fire up their creativity and rebuild the world around them will be run in the space. Workshops can be booked from this page – details below.
