Covering composers from the romantic and modern eras, this event describes the stories of several composers, with examples of their music. Nadia Boulanger indicated the necessary determination: ‘Do not take up music unless you would rather die than not do so.’

This evening’s composers include three French women, who express heart, lightness and energy; an accomplished German; a versatile English composer, showing her wit; two contrasting Americans featuring sensuality, and popular styles; and a Polish woman demonstrating her interest in the local folk music, through her own skill as a virtuoso violinist.

Diana Ambache was short-listed for the European Women of Achievement Awards in 2002 for her pioneering work researching and presenting music by women composers of the last 250 years. As a pianist she has given concerts in over 30 countries on five continents.

Diana was the first British woman to found and direct her own classical chamber orchestra. She has led creativity workshops for business people; half of her 17 CD recordings are music by women, and she has published a book on the Mendelssohn travels in Scotland and Italy.
