Over four days from the 7th to the 10th of March 2024, London’s Southbank Centre presents the inaugural South Asian Sounds festival: a diverse programme reflecting the wealth of talented South Asian musicians and artists. Artists from the South Asian diaspora have been carefully curated to present audiences with a stunning range of classical and contemporary music that reflects the diversity of the region and its people. Malkit Singh Golden Star, listed by the Guiness Book of Record as the biggest selling bhangra solo artist in the world, will perform his original style and wonderfully melodious voice with a live band at the Royal Festival Hall. Singh’s incredible career has spanned more than 30 years and seen him bring Punjabi culture to audiences all across the world.

Since his first release, 'Nach Gidhe Vich' in 1986, Malkit Singh has toured to over 36 countries and released 21 albums, receiving endless awards and accolades along the way.

Malkit Singh's trademark anthem, ‘Tutak Tutak Tutiyan’, is still the fastest selling and most successful bhangra song of all time, and his hit songs ‘Jind Mahi’ and ‘Chal Hun’ featured in the 2002 film Bend it Like Beckham. In 2022 Singh’s explosive hit song ‘Kali Ainak’ took the charts by storm and has received over 10 million views on YouTube to date. In 2008, Malkit Singh became the first Punjabi singer to be honoured with an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II.

Presented by Asian Arts Agency as part of South Asian Sounds, Malkit Singh MBE Golden Star with live band will take to the stage on Friday March 8th for the South Asian Sounds’ Friday night’s premiere event at the Royal Festival Hall. South Asian Sounds is curated by Southbank Centre.
