Anna Sebastian: What We May Also Do

Anna Sebastian’s paintings explore imaginative and emotional realities. Her images challenge the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, the evident and the merely perceived.

Her latest cycle of paintings Gloria is inspired by Three Approaches to Psychotherapy, 1960s scientific films in which a young woman undergoes therapeutic interventions for the camera.

In the paintings, psychoanalytic spaces become surreal and dreamlike environments. Sebastian’s painterly interest often follows these scenes beyond their frames, where they meet ambivalence and haunting.
