English Pocket Opera Company, in association with the Cochrane Theatre, presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE in a light-hearted and fun-filled new production. The show will run from 30th November – 18th December. Press Night: Thursday 1st December at 7pm.

In writing THE MAGIC FLUTE Mozart created an exotic mix of comic pantomime, romantic love-story and murderous conflict. It is a tale of triumph where love and truth defeat selfishness and trickery. In beloved pantomime tradition, the audience is encouraged to join in and sing along with the villains and heroes.

Set in a timeless and mythical land, THE MAGIC FLUTE has at its heart the meeting of Tamino and Pamina. It is love at first sight but it isn’t going to be easy. They have to defeat the Queen of the Night and prove to the mighty Sarastro that they are worthy to become members of the fellowship of the wise. They are helped by Papageno – a madcap, lovelorn bird-catcher – some genies and a magic flute. Ultimately, through Tamino and Pamina’s loving teamwork, they finally succeed. Papageno finds his own love but has to convince Papagena that he will be true to her before she agrees that they can live happily ever after.

This new production featuring five live musicians is conducted by Duncan Robertson, directed by Mark Tinkler and is designed by Annabel Lee.
