They have provided the soundtrack to our year and now the art work that has decorated some of our favourite records of 2010 is set to take the art world by storm.

Art Vinyl, alongside music industry design experts, have selected a shortlist of 50 sleeve designs for the prestigious Best Art Vinyl award. The Best Art Vinyl 2010 shortlist is being featured in exhibitions across Europe and the UK, with the first opening on December 3rd at the 02 Arena, London. Further exhibitions follow over the coming weeks in Folkstone, Paris, Gothenburg & Brussels.

Art and music lovers alike are being urged to vote for their favourite, with the winning designs being displayed from January 2011.

Those in the nominated 50 include MGMT’s ‘Congratulations’, Hot Chip’s ‘We have remixes EP’ and Scissor Sisters’ ‘Night Work’. Edwyn Collins also features for his self illustrated cover to his return album Losing Sleep as does The Klaxon’s cat astronaut on their album ‘Surfing the Void’.

Previous winners of the award include Hard-Fi’s stark ‘Stars of CCTV’ in 2005, Thom Yorke’s ‘The Eraser’ in 2006, The Cribs ‘Men’s Needs, Woman’s Needs, Whatever’ in 2007, Fleet Foxes’ eponymous first album and Muse’s psychedelic cover for ‘The Resistance’ in 2009.
