Damyns Hall Aerodrome in Upminster, Essex, again opens its gates on the 6th & 7th of August for the Annual Military and Flying Machines Show, the fastest growing military vehicle show in the Essex. Last year’s show was an outstanding success with over 17,000 visitors and being recognised and awarded, by a top specialist magazine, as one of the Top 10 Military Events of 2010. This fantastic show really is an essential day in the family calendar at a truly excellent value for money entry price. This year the Military and Flying Machines will again give you the opportunity to see amazing flying displays, over 300 military vehicles, from the small but mighty jeeps to the massive tanks, armoured tank transporters and heavy artillery displays! There will also be an chance to see over 60 historical re-enactment displays depicting life in the military (of many nations) from medieval times right up to the modern day with accurate uniforms and authentic equipment giving a realistic insight into the life of the soldier. What better way to learn about our history than to get up close and personal with the past. There are many things that may surprise and interest you throughout the day, not least of which is a Parade of Tanks, world war two “blitz” Anderson bomb shelter complete with dig for victory garden, and a full size submarine conning tower in the middle of an airfield! We will also have live ‘wartime’ entertainment in our 700 person marquee all day, with a “Big Band” complete with the “Polka Dot Girls” A 1940’ style all girl singing group playing throughout the afternoon, swing dancing lessons, and a live 1940’s style worldwide internet radio broadcast, the ability to meet and talk with the veterans and Chelsea pensioners, arena activities including firepower demonstrations with a wartime field gun! and mock battles throughout the weekend, marching band, flight simulator, and a massive militaria fair and family stalls, Helicopter experiences and activities for the kids including mini Jeep and Mini Land Rover rides, and drill with “Major Headache” and so much more there will be lots to do for all the family! Damyns Hall Aerodrome is an excellent location for the Military and Flying Machines with its distinctive peaceful vintage feel just minutes drive from the M25 and Lakeside Shopping Centre situated close on the Essex/Kent border and close to London with easy access from the M25/A13.
