The Elepghant and the Nun

The Elephant and the Nun is a new ten day festival celebrating the centre of Southwark throughout Elephant and Castle, Walworth, Camberwell, Peckham and Nunhead.

This wonderful part of London is bursting with talent and heritage. Not only is the home to one of the most diverse communities in the UK but is also where you can find Ministry of Sound, South London Gallery, Charlie Chaplin, Carnaval del Pueblo, The Camberwell Beauty, Theatre Peckham, Peckham Library, Nunhead Cemetery and a mass of artist studios, theatres, parks, music venues, galleries and film clubs.

This inaugural festival will showcase as much as possible and with dance as our theme you will see it taking over. Join Swing Patrol at your local shopping centre, snoop around artist studios with Artflicks, belly dance in Newington Library, Tai Chi on Camberwell Green and experience art at the top of Peckham multi-storey car park with Bold Tendencies.

...and you cannot miss our outdoor festival finale. Four specially commissioned events in four spaces on one day turn Camberwell Green into a wonderfully exotic tropical garden, Brunswick Park celebrates the right royal ragamuffin Caroline of Brunswick, Lucas Gardens takes it inspiration from the four elements and Peckham Square crackles with energy with our dance clash. What a whole lotta lovin.
