Genius for Genes Gala Concert

Don’t miss the opportunity to watch Sue Perkins guest conduct at this special Gala Concert in aid of the CGD Research Trust.

This follows the success of the two first Genius for Genes concerts. We have lined up a superb evening at Cadogan Hall, introduced by Sue Perkins and featuring the extraordinarily talented young Orion Orchestra under their charismatic conductor Toby Purser. We are also delighted to have the exceptional young pianist Ben Shoeman and the three Tenori (Ulric Bjorklund, James Edwards and Alexander Grove.)

The CGD Research Trust (soon to be the CGD Society) is the world's leading specialist organisation involved with Chronic Granulomatous Disorder, a rare immune deficiency.

CGD is a rare and life-threatening genetic condition which could affect 8-10 people in a million of us. A faulty gene in the bone marrow means that white blood cells are unable to fight infections as they should. People with CGD have to take powerful antibiotics and antifungals every day to try to stave off serious illness. But thanks to gifts from our supporters and our leadership of the “Jeans for Genes” annual fundraising initiative, our understanding of CGD has hugely improved in recent years. Treatments including bone marrow transplants are increasingly successful. Although still in its infancy gene therapy offers real hope for the future with promising results from recent clinical trials.

We strive to create a better life for those living with CGD through support services for our families and through funding vital research to find improved treatments and a cure for those affected. Over the last 12 years more than £3.8 million has been invested into 43 research projects.
