In 2007, Leo Maguire was awarded the Getty Grant for Editorial Photography to explore the legacy of violence handed down through gypsy fathers to their sons. He was given nine months to complete it. Leo never imagined how difficult it would be to gain access to this closed community and four years later the project was still incomplete. Unsatisfied by his stills, Leo began to use video and sound to record a more intimate portrayal. His documentary ‘Blood Line’ will premiere on More4 later this year marking a fitting conclusion after a testing creative process.
Roof Unit is delighted to invite Leo to discuss his project at large, looking at the process of moving across to video and the new perspectives a photographer can bring to a multimedia project. Expect a few sneak previews and an amazing insight into this fascinating community.
