One East Asia and Artspace Galleries London are proud to present this small yet remarkable exhibition tracing three major phases in the development of Indonesian modern and contemporary fine art.

Appreciating art- any form of art- takes time. Unfamiliarity with distant cultures and the passing of time can sometimes create a gulf between viewer and artwork, so we aim in this exhibition to impart knowledge about Indonesia’s visual heritage and its historical context in order to show the full glory of its artistic output.

While focusing predominantly on work by living artists, we hope, by looking back over 170 years, to show not only how Indonesian visual art has changed and matured, but also how rich and diverse it has become- especially over the last decade.
