Join us for our first ever broadcast of live ballet direct from the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in high definition. With a wide repertoire ranging from national classics and world-class masterpieces to grandiose new productions, the Bolshoi places its classical heritage in the context of modern Russia and embraces new approaches to creativity. A ballet in two acts based on the well-known fairy tale, with a magical score by Tchaikovsky, Sleeping Beauty is one of the world's best-loved ballets. At the christening of the princess Aurora, the evil fairy Carabosse throws a terrible curse upon her and predicts that she will prick her finger and die on her sixteenth birthday. Fortunately, the Lilac Fairy lessens the curse: Aurora will be plunged into a deep sleep for 100 years but will be awakened by a prince's kiss.
