"thoughtful, unsettling and beautifully conceived."
The Guardian

"remarkable and disturbing...an extraordinary two-hander"
The Stage

1 Beach Road is the new play from the award winning RedCape Theatre. A tale of friendship, a shrinking island, synchronized swimming and trying to turn back the tide.

Relentlessly the sea swallows the road, the row of bungalows, the garage and finally eats its way to the back door of the Bed and Breakfast "1 Beach Road", where the inhabitants refuse to budge. Victoria and Jane are left standing at the edge of a precipice.

With RedCape's original visual storytelling, sense of humour and emotional skill the play explores the metaphorical connections between Alzheimer's and Coastal Erosion and asks "what is it like to lose everything - your home and your memories?"

Like their debut "The Idiot Colony" the starting point is true stories, drawing from interviews with the residents of coastal towns in the East of England that are disappearing into the sea and on going research onto the experiences of Alzheimer's patients and their carers. RedCape Theatre is committed to telling stories - with ordinary people in extraordinary situations.
