Imagine a life without water flowing freely from a tap. Imagine waking up at dawn and spending six hours fetching water for your family. One in eight people worldwide do not have to imagine this – it is their reality.

The Big Challenge is a 10Km (6.2 miles) sponsored walk along the River Thames on Sunday 15 April 2012 to raise funds for Project Waterfall, the charitable initiative delivering clean water projects in African coffee-producing countries. The walk is the official launch event of UK Coffee Week™ 2012, being held from 23-29 April.

The distances covered in The Big Challenge reflect the long journeys undertaken daily by African women and children to collect water for their families, which is often dirty, polluted and unsafe to drink. This daily burden of fetching water prevents children from going to school and adults from working.

The Big Challenge will allow participants to experience first-hand what daily life is like for the people that Project Waterfall will provide with clean water.

Register today to help raise awareness and much needed funds for these disadvantaged communities.
