A new touring adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s classic tale of love, lust and ambition...

Edward II
By Christopher Marlowe- especially adapted for Jadis Shadows Productions Ltd.

Touring theatre company ‘Jadis Shadows Productions’ present their new evocative presentation of Edward II. This production has been specially adapted for the company from Christopher Marlowe’s classic tale of love, lust and ambition… a tale telling of the tragic rule and downfall of King Edward II.

"Decadence endures, but death is all..."

Edward, a young man who was never truly designed to be a monarch, who let his heart rule his head, who allowed his passion for another man to influence his each and every decision: whether in matters of state or in regards to more personal intrigues.
Edward has a Kingdom, an army and a court of pleasure at his disposal; yet he also has a wife, a seemingly long suffering wife, who he wedded under instruction from his father.
Isabelle, a French Princess of great pride and breeding, displays a controlled and proud manner respected by all, especially regarding her ‘saintly’ reaction to her husband’s openly homosexual romance… yet under the surface murderous rage and exuberant passions brew… passions which, in her turmoil, have risen with force to the forefront of her being.
A play of contrasting personalities; of the gulf between emotions openly admitted and enjoyed and those kept locked tight. A play which shows how society sees public figures and judges them due to their public behaviour rather than looking beneath the hypocrisy of façade and of popular opinion.
There is no right or wrong, there is no black or white; simply two people who have been thrown together by fate- yet their personal war of indifference and revenge could, with ease, bring about the fall of a nation.

“This is a production company with inventiveness, intuition and daring. The bohemian undercurrents in their approach suit their material down to a tee; there's always a sense of the gothic, the burlesque, something dark yet seductive… unafraid to challenge the norm, there's something daring about this company."

JD Doc Smith 'It's Alive!' music, media, culture & arts magazine

"...A sparse, minimalistic set places the focus firmly on the players who capture the bawdy licentious mood of the piece well. This blood soaked production is a triumph, and was warmly received by an appreciative, enthralled audience. **** (four out of five star rating)"
