The People’s Supermarket holding a big series of events lined up for Fairtrade Fortnight, kicking off with an in-store exhibition of London-based artist Chris Haughton's hand-woven rugs. Designed digitally then hand-woven London-based artist Chris Haughton (featured in Time Magazine’s Design 100), the rugs are each unique works of art. This new method of designing connects communities in the developing world with design technology.

The series of events themed to raise awareness of producers in the developing world, are open to the public, as well as the volunteer members of the co-operative.

This include film screenings: “Bananas”, “The Black Gold” and “The Price of Sugar” that cover fair-trade topics. . Debates and talks take place throughout the fortnight, one on the role of innovation in Fairtrade, and another on ways for artists and designers to engage with the developing world. There will be a number of panellists such such as Kate Sebag, co-founder of Tropical Wholefoods, Alison Ward (fairtrade) Greg Valerio, a pioneer of Fairtrade gold and jewellery, and Observer Campaigner of the Year 2011, Rosemary Lalley representing Univeg, Andy Good as managing director at Equal Exchange, a workers co-op that sources fairly and more.

Participants can take part in chocolate making workshop, with a London chocolatier, wine-tasting with a guest sommelier Christophe Charbonnet and much more.

The headline event of the programme is a Fairtrade Pop-up Restaurant when, for one night only, the shelves are pushed aside and a three-course Fairtrade feast is served in style.
